Biodynamic Massage
At a glance
A hands-on bodywork technique developed within the Biodynamic tradition, using varying pressures and strokes informed by ongoing feedback from the client’s autonomic responses — not a fixed, predetermined sequence of movements.
How it’s meant to work
The practitioner is meant to continuously read and respond to feedback — skin colour, breath, muscle tone, reported sensation — adjusting touch accordingly, treating the whole session as an ongoing, responsive conversation rather than a script applied uniformly to every body.
The disability question this raises directly
This technique depends entirely on accurate reading of bodily feedback — which means it depends entirely on a practitioner correctly understanding a specific disabled body’s actual signals, sensory profile, and pain responses, none of which can be assumed from general training. A body with altered sensation, a different pain response, or a condition affecting skin or circulation needs the practitioner to ask directly and repeatedly, not to rely on generic reads.
Consent as an ongoing conversation
Touch-based work of any kind requires consent that’s genuinely ongoing, not granted once at the start of a session — clear communication about pressure, location, and pace, and real permission to say stop at any point, without that stopping being treated as a failure of the process.
A question worth carrying
Whose interpretation of this body’s signals actually counts here — and has that been asked directly, rather than assumed?
